Joanne Loch Memorial Award

An award recognizing exemplary dedication and commitment to excellence

The Joanne Loch Memorial Award recognizes a full-time staff person in a unit of UNMC Academic Affairs who has demonstrated (through a direct or supporting role) the attributes exemplified by Joanne Loch, including perseverance, thoughtfulness, encouragement, adaptability and teamwork.

Recognition includes a personalized award, $500 for staff development (can be used over a two-year period), and the individual's name on a plaque that will be displayed in the office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. 

Eligible Candidates

  • Rank: All managerial professionals, office-service and administrative staff that work in Academic Affairs for .75 FTE or greater.
  • Experience: Academic Affairs employee for one or more years (from award submission deadline).
  • Past recipients of this award are re-eligible in three years.

Award Criteria

Demonstrates at least three of the following:

  • Perseverance: Persistence in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success.
  • Thoughtfulness: Takes into consideration the needs of other people.
  • Encouragement: Giving someone support, confidence, or hope.
  • Adaptability: Has the ability to adapt to new conditions or expectations.
  • Teamwork: Collaborating to achieve a common goal while respecting diversity and one another.

Nomination Instructions

  • Nomination Form:
    The nominator can be any UNMC employee, not just an individual within Academic Affairs. Nominations typically open every summer.
  • Supporting Materials (optional): 
    Supervisor letter of support and additional letters are encouraged.
