National Research Service Awards
Virtually all NIH institutes and centers offer predoctoral (F30/F31) NRSA fellowships to students. These awards, often referred to as “F awards” are focused not just on the proposed research, but also on the applicant’s background, the planned research training, and the professional development activities they will pursue during NRSA funding.

Types of Predoctoral NRSAs
- Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) Individual Predoctoral MD/PhD or Other Dual-Doctoral Degree Fellowship (Parent F30).
- Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) Individual Predoctoral Fellowship (Parent F31).
- Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) Individual Predoctoral Fellowship to Promote Diversity in Health-Related Research (Parent F31 - Diversity).
