Bridging Human-Centered Care with Innovative Design Methods

Design thinking is a powerful tool for solving the complex systemic problems in the health care system, the day-to-day issues faced by health care professionals and leaders, and for developing innovative solutions for the needs of patients and providers.

This synchronous hybrid course is designed to prepare healthcare professionals, leaders, and executives to implement design thinking practices in healthcare practice, administration, strategic planning and research.

About the Course:

  • 8-week synchronous cohort
  • Begins March 11, 2024, and runs through May 6, 2024
  • Designed for health care professionals, industry leaders, researchers and entrepreneurs
  • Live, weekly interactive lectures and coaching sessions with nationally recognized experts in design thinking and health care
  • Work collaboratively with an interprofessional team to use design thinking to develop an innovative solution to a health care problem.
  • Concludes with a remote capstone symposium, which will include guest speakers, design presentations, prototyping, as well as intellectual property, tech transfer, and small business development consultation.

Participants Will:

  • Gain the knowledge and skills to lead design thinking activities and teams within health care and health sciences education.
  • Learn skills to solve critical problems in industry and education using empathy-based design thinking.
  • Learn and engage with leading experts in design thinking from both academic institutions and industry, including, Stanford, Columbia, Jefferson, and GE, who will provide insights on design thinking methods and practice based on authentic experiences in using design thinking in health care.
  • Work with inter-professional design thinking teams coached by experienced designers to gain hands-on experience with applying the practice of design thinking to solving healthcare problems.

Course Commitment:
