Academic and Physical Disability Accommodations

The Accessibility Services Center (ASC) collaborates with students, administrators, faculty, and staff to ensure access to reasonable and appropriate student disability accommodations for academic programs and student involvement. Students who require academic or physical accommodations should present documentation of the disability and need for accommodation to the Accessibility Services Center. Health Insurance

UNMC requires that full-time students have inpatient (hospitalization) insurance. Full-time students who wish to waive/decline UNMC’s endorsed student health insurance program may do so by providing proof of coverage through their parents, spouse, employer or their own personal plan. If the student wishes to waive/decline the United Healthcare Student Insurance, they must fill out an electronic waiver form that can be found on their UNMC MyRecords account once their semester tuition bill has been calculated.

Questions concerning the student insurance plan, procedures for filing claims and/or problems with the claims process may be directed to Chadsity Crear by email or phone at 866-351-4262.

Library

The Leon S. McGoogan Health Sciences Library of Medicine is the library of UNMC and the only state-supported academic health sciences library in Nebraska. Contact askus@unmc.edu or 402-559-6221.

Ombuds Program

The word “ombudsman” originated in Sweden and means “representative of the people.” UNMC has established an Ombuds Program to help students, residents, faculty and staff resolve problems and to promote fair and equitable treatment for all members of the UNMC community. Drs. David Carver and Susan Swindells serve as the UNMC Ombudspersons.

Email dcarver@unmc.edu or call 402-559-2491 for a confidential appointment.

Voter Registration (Nebraska Residents)

UNMC must provide the following Voter Registration Information to all UNMC students to remain compliant with Title IV federal student aid assistance programs.

The voter registration requirement was included in the National Voter Registration Act of 1993. In essence, if a participating school is located in a state that requires voter registration prior to election day and/or does not allow the ability to register at the time of voting, then the school must make a good faith effort to distribute voter registration information/registration forms to its students.

The Department of Justice has identified the states that meet this criterion. Nebraska residents are required to register to vote for all state and national elections. The requirements of the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 (also known as the “NVRA” or “motor voter law”) apply to 44 States and the District of Columbia. Six States (Idaho, Minnesota, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Wisconsin, and Wyoming are exempt from the NVRA. Likewise, the territories are not covered by the NVRA (Puerto Rico, Guam, Virgin Islands, and American Samoa)

The following web sites offer information on Nebraska Voter Registration requirements and Nebraska Voter Registration forms.
