About the Program

The Medical Sciences Interdepartmental Area (MSIA) was developed to host graduate students from departments within UNMC who require a multidisciplinary/non-traditional focus that may not be provided by other graduate or professional degree programs and is intended for those who wish to pursue individually designed programs of an interdisciplinary nature within the medical sciences.

Our Mission

The mission of the MSIA to prepare the highest quality clinical and translational research scientists and practitioners by providing students the opportunity for multidisciplinary knowledge acquisition, as well as mastery of clinical and translational research skills and their application to health care best practices.

Applied Behavior Analysis (PhD)

The Applied Behavior Analysis PhD program teaches skills that will prepare students for positions in academic, clinical, and research arenas.

Biological Defense & Health Security (MS and PhD)

Students will engage with scientific principles in the emerging global security areas related to defense against infectious disease.

Clinical Translational Research Mentored Scholars Program (MS and PhD)

This program is open to UNMC faculty only. The CTR-MSP program develops scientists or health professionals at the junior faculty stage into independent clinical and translational researchers.

Clinically Relevant Basic Research (MS and PhD)

Students will learn processes and methodologies affiliated with basic science studies that have translational relevance to the health of patients.

Health Practice and Medical Education Research (MS and PhD)

Students will engage in research that explores health practice, health policy, population health, or health education.

Oral Biology (MS and PhD)

Students will engage with clinically important problems concerned with the biological, chemical and physical basis of issues related to oral health.
