Immediate Care Clinics

If you become injured or ill while on the UNMC campus, you should call 402-559-7204 to be seen at the Student Health Clinic on the UNMC Omaha campus. In the event that you are directed to the Immediate Care Clinic at Midtown or any other Nebraska Medicine Immediate Care Clinic, you will have out-of-pocket costs, and your visit will be billed to your medical insurance.

The UNMC Student Health Clinic may send you to the Nebraska Medicine emergency room for treatment, if necessary. If you have the United Healthcare Student Insurance and are sent to a Nebraska Medicine Emergency Room or Immediate Care Clinic outside of the Student Health clinic hours, please contact Student Health Administration via email within 48 hours of release for a referral. When a referral is in place, your benefit through United Healthcare will waive the Emergency Room copay and deductible (total of $800). Approved referrals do not constitute or ensure automatic payment by the insurance company. The insurance company will pay for covered expenses only.

All students are required to have medical insurance.

On the Omaha Campus

If it is after hours during the week, on the weekend, or on a holiday, the Nebraska Medicine - Midtown Clinic should be used by students experiencing any minor illnesses or injuries. If you are seen at the Immediate Care Clinic at Midtown, you will have out-of-pocket costs, and your visit will be billed to your medical insurance.

  • Holidays: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Off the Omaha Campus

Hospitalization (Inpatient) Coverage

Fund B does not provide coverage for hospitalization. UNMC requires full-time students to have inpatient hospitalization health insurance. Students may purchase the university-endorsed student health insurance plan through United Healthcare Student Resources or purchase a private plan through an independent agency that is equivocal to the university-endorsed student health insurance plan.

Illness or Injury Away from the UNMC Campus

Students outside a 50-mile radius for academic purposes requiring urgent/emergent care may be seen at an area outpatient facility. Fund B will cover the office visit. You should contact Student Health via email within 48 hours of the incident to obtain a referral. Failure to obtain a referral could result in the student being responsible for all charges.

Services not related to emergent or urgent care as described above as services provided by Fund B will need to be billed to your medical insurance (United Healthcare Student Insurance or other personal insurance). Coverage by the student’s insurance policy may involve a deductible, applicable co-insurance and/or policy provisions/limitations. If you are covered under the Student Health Insurance, you may go to the United Health Care website to locate an in-network provider. You may also contact a United Healthcare representative at 1 (800) 351-4262 or by email at unebraskaadvocates@uhcsr.com
